The 411 on Elderberry

It’s no secret that the summer flu is going around and there’s no better time than now to amp up your immune support. With so many immunity health supplements out there, it can be tough to figure out what ingredients and sources are beneficial to your routine. Scroll below to learn more about why Elderberry is a crowd favorite.

Q: What is Elderberry?

A: So glad you asked! Elderberry is the dark purple berry of the black elder tree, found in the warmer parts of Europe, North America, Asia and Northern Africa. For Centuries, black elderberries have been studied for their antibacterial and antiviral properties. As research has progressed, we now know that the immunity support prevalent in elderberries comes from the anthocyanins & polyphenols found in this super berry.*

Q: What are anthocyanin and polyphenols?

A: Polyphenols are compounds naturally found in plants (many fruits and vegetables, but also herbs, spices and even chocolate and wine!). Polyphenols have properties like antioxidants and have been linked to various health benefits.*

Anthocyanins are pigments that appear either red, purple, blue or black. Many berries are known to be rich in anthocyanins. Like polyphenols, anthocyanins have properties like antioxidants, so they also have been known to be linked to various health benefits.*

Q: Why should I take Elderberry?

A: Traditionally, Elderberry is seen as a winter supplement but lately it’s becoming more and more important to support your immune system all year-round. Many support their immunity by taking Vitamin C, Zinc, and/or Vitamin D. These are all great options, they just differ in their sources. If you’re looking for an all-encompassing routine to support your immune system, Elderberry is an excellent addition.

Q: Which SR Elderberry product should I take? What’s the difference?
