Sweet Sweat UK & Europe
Today is November 15th, National Recycling Day! We want to bring awareness to this matter because it is essential for the future of our planet. Today’s world is facing a terrible plastic pollution epidemic. This is not only a problem for the Earth, it’s a problem for our health as well! The scary truth: the amount of plastic pollution projected to enter the ocean each year will massively increase by 2025. The time to take action is now.
There are so many ways to help the planet, like seeking out alternatives to the plastic items we rely on. In honor of National Recycling Day, we have come up with 6 simple ways to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle…
1. Toothbrushes → Bamboo Toothbrushes
Try a bamboo toothbrush instead of a regular plastic toothbrush. You can pick up these wooden toothbrushes now at many stores like Target & Walmart. Amazon also offers a lot of great options, delivered right to your door.
2. Shampoo → Lush Shampoo Bars
Think about how many shampoo bottles we go through each year and how much plastic we waste as a result. An easy, better quality switch can be made with Lush shampoo bars. These handmade bars smell like heaven, leaving your hair smooth and shiny. Even better, they fight animal testing and come with no plastic or packaging.
3. Straws → Stainless Steel Straw / Glass Straw / Bamboo straw
This is one of the easiest ways to reduce plastic. And trust us, it makes a huge difference! Disliking paper straws is no longer an excuse because stainless steel straws, glass straws, and bamboo straws are easily available. Reusable straws can be used over and over again.
4. Water bottles → Reusable Water Bottle
It’s time to stop buying plastic water bottles, it’s 2019. There are hundreds of insulated reusable bottles available in different sizes and can keep beverages cold and fresh. It’s also a good excuse to splurge and buy a fun water bottle around to remind you to stay hydrated.
5. Shopping Bags → Reusable Non-Plastic Bags
We always keep a few reusable SR bags in our cars so that every time we go to the farmers market or store, we can avoid using plastic bags. Recycle the grocery bags you already have or purchase reusable bags. A few dollars or less spent on reusable bags can make a huge difference for the environment.
6. Beauty Products → DIY + Reusable Non-Plastic Containers
Most beauty products like scrubs, lotions & serums come in a small plastic container. Think about how many plastic containers we go through in one month alone. We encourage you to explore DIY beauty products and store them in glass containers. They’re easy to reuse and you can seriously save money on beauty products.
