Lessons Learned in 2020

As we close out the craziest year of our lives (let’s hope!)—we reflect upon all that 2020 has taught us about ourselves. Through quarantine, Tiger King, election results, and a compilation of celebrities singing “Imagine”— here are three lessons learned from 2020:

1. Self-care is important.

We’ve heard this a million times—and then a million times more in 2020 alone. But self-care may look a little different this year than years previous.

How can staying at home in our pjs all day be so difficult?

Self-care is all about balance.  It’s about both cookies and broccoli. Rest days and exercise. Play and work.  With the usual hustle and bustle of our lives, we often need reminders to have a spa day, watch Netflix, or eat some chocolate. This year, however—it’s just as important to remember to stay active, connect with others, and eat some veggies.

If you ever need help, check out our blog’s Wellness page. We have plenty of self-care tips from scheduling me-time to happiness hacks.

2. Setbacks aren’t losses.

For some, the seemingly endless vortex of time created by quarantine has been the perfect wake up call to try new things, get going on one’s goals, and thrive (please, show us mere mortals your ways.)

Yet whether you’re an extrovert needing stimulation or a creature of habit needing routine, dealing with financial hardship or personal loss, barred from the gym or your favorite restaurant—this year has challenged us all.

And guess what? It’s okay if it pushed you over the edge. Show yourself some kindness—you got through it in your own way. When you’re ready, you’ll find a way to push back and onward.

Setbacks are just springboards to something better.

3. We’re all in this together.

We often thrive on competition—but this year, our only fight is against the pandemic. It takes a collective effort to stay six feet apart.

It’s great to look forward to spending time with loved ones—but we should also reflect upon all the ways we’ve learned to connect with one another at a distance. Zoom meetings, long-distance phone calls, Tik Tok dances, classic memes.

We did it. And we did it together.

Cheers to making it through 2020! May your 2021 be full of puppies, good first dates, and mask-less grocery store runs.
